THOUGHTS | TIME TRAVEL SWEEPSTAKES

This post is for sheer entertainment value, not contest-winning potential.

A few years back, the folks who put out Chrononauts, a card game of time travel, ran a backward- and, for a few brave souls, forward-looking time-travel sweepstakes. The problem is today you’d have to do a little time-traveling of your own to enter: The clock ran out for the contest (wink, wink) at the turn of the millennium.

Folks who "entered" were pining to do things like meet their parents before they became their parents, look for Robin Hood back in the 11th century or thereabouts, go to New York City the day the Beatles played Shea Stadium and hit the World's Fair while they were at it. One fellow wanted to travel one century into the future and visit a medical library, so he could bring back knowledge of cures.

I’d be too anxious to travel into the future. You wouldn't know how it would turn out. Which is what can make living in the present so unbearable. Though we don't actually live smack in the present. We live approximately five minutes behind the present. Otherwise, we'd get too close to the edge. Anyway, I feel a Scarlet O'Hara moment coming on. I can't think of this today.

The card game might be fun. It won Best Traditional Card Game of 2000.
